FLP Program FAQs
Below you will find a list of the most frequently asked questions regarding the Fusion Landscape Professional program. If you have any other questions, please contact the Program Coordinator at email@example.com.
The Fusion Landscape Professional program, or FLP program for short, is an industry program that provides landscape professionals with the tools and knowledge to design, install and maintain aesthetically pleasing, water efficient, low-impact landscape design/construction/maintenance to clients. The FLP program is offered by Landscape Ontario in partnership with the Region of Peel and York Region.
What is the Fusion Landscape Professional program?
The FLP program will engage members of the landscape industry that deal directly with residents to create opportunities for market transformation. The goal is to make water-efficient, low-impact landscapes, that are visually appealing and interesting, the new industry standard.

- Theory and municipal strategies;
- The science behind Fusion landscaping;
- Selling Fusion landscapes;
- Site inventory, analysis and planning Fusion landscapes;
- Designing, constructing and maintaining Fusion landscapes;
- Setting yourself up for success with Fusion landscapes.
To be eligible for the FLP program the participant's company must:
What is required to participate?
- Service residential properties in the Region of Peel and/or York Region;
- Be willing to enter into an agreement with either and/or both of the participating regions;
- Be willing to provide feedback to the Region of Peel, York Region and Landscape Ontario. Participants will be required to complete surveys to gauge the program's success.
The FLP program builds upon concepts taught in the Certified Landscape Designer (CLD) certification program. To be eligible for the FLP program, the applicant must have one of the following:
Who can become FLP certified?
- Landscape Industry Certified Designer (CLD) designation or College/University equivalent
- Landscape Industry Certified Manager (CLM) designation or College/University equivalent
- Landscape Industry Certified Technician (CLT) designation or College/University equivalent
- College/University Diploma/Degree in a landscape/horticulture program, with a minimum of 4 years industry experience
- At least 10 years of pertinent landscape design/construction/maintenance experience
Up to three individuals from a company are able to participate, however, at this time we are only accepting one individual from each sector per company. For example, a company would be able to send one individual from their design team, one from their construction team and one from their maintenance team.
How many individuals can my company send to the FLP training program?
To participate, applicants must submit a completed online application form. Please submit one application per company (1-3 applicants). Don't delay, as space is limited.
What do I have to do to participate?
If you operate in Peel and/or York Regions, the cost of the program is being fully subsidized by the Region of Peel and York Region at this time. If you do not operate within Peel and/or York Regions a fee will apply (based on cost recovery for Landscape Ontario.
Is there a cost to participate in the FLP training and certification program?
Once you have submitted your application, you will be required to send a copy of the following to hold your spot in the program:
What information do I need to provide to be eligible?
- Proof of WSIB, Certificate of Clearance;
- Proof of Auto Insurance, 2 million required;
- Certificate of Liability Insurance, 2 million required with Errors and Omissions/Professional Liability, 1 million required.
Once approved, participants will be provided access to the online 'Fusion Hub'resource website. Prior to the the training seminar, it will be important for all participants to have read the Fusion Landscape Professional Study Manual, which can be downloaded from the FLP Hub at no cost. The seminar will build on topics discussed in the manual. Other suggested readings are the Canadian Landscape Standard (CLS) and the Certified Landscape Designer (CLD) manual.
How do I prepare for the FLP training and certification program?
The FLP program takes a total of 2.5 days to complete:
What is the time commitment to become FLP certified?
- The training program is completed in two full days;
- The written exam will be completed in a half day.
Yes, there will be a recertification process that will follow the same structure as other certification programs. As a FLP, you will be required to submit Continuing Education Credits (CEUs) to maintain your designation.
Is there a recertification process for the FLP certification program?
The FLP certification program has been developed by LO under the same standards as existing certification programs, that are recognized by the industry and municipal partners.
Is this training and certification program recognized?
You will need to attend the two-day training seminar, achieve a minimum of 70% on all of the written exam modules.
What steps need to be completed in order to become FLP certified?
Whether you are looking to grow your business, develop your own skill set, address municipal requirements or simply keep up with the latest landscape trends and best practices, becoming a FLP will help you to meet your goals. As a FLP you will be able to diversify the services your business offers, generate a new revenue stream and stay on trend with the wants and needs of your clients.
Why should I participate in the program?
The next FLP training seminar will be taking place in early December at the newly renovated Landscape Ontario office for out-of-region participants (firms not operating in Peel and/or York Region). The next training seminar for the Peel and York Region companies will be in March 2020.
When and where will the FLP training and certification program take place?
