Fertilizer Placement Study
Subsurface fertilizer application can significantly improve nutrient management in container production. Research supported by Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (OMAFRA) suggests that phosphorus levels in leachate can be decreased by up to 50 per cent compared to incorporating fertilizer in the media. The research demonstrated unique root structures based on placement, and included the preparation of a technical factsheet on how to determine aeration porosity, two important factors in root development.
